Do I need a mobile website?

23Jan11

Like so many other people, I increasingly access the web from  my smart phone (iPhone).

And I’m starting to wish more businesses had mobile websites that were built for that type of access.  And I finally did it for my own business: mobile.wsiwebmark.com.

While I use that mobile browser frequently, I don’t use it the same way I use my laptop, or even my iPad browser.  I’m usually looking for something like directions, or a phone number, or business hours.  Something I can do quickly that supports the fact that I’m somewhere OTHER than at my desk.

Sites packed with information and graphics – especially Flash-based stuff – kill me.  They take forever to load on my phone, and I can’t navigate them anyway.  The drop-down menus, and wide displays don’t make any sense on a 2 inch wide display.

If you have a business website and don’t think customers wish they could find your information more conveniently from their phone, ask around.  I think you’ll find otherwise.  And if you decide its time to provide your own mobile site, give me a call.  We can have you up in just a day!
